ROOT｜HUMIDITY CONDITIONER DESIGN FOR CAIRS
VLND designed ROOT, a humidity conditioner combining air cleaning function. Many countries have very humid summers and dry winters. A high humidity in the summer let us sweating and feeling uncomfortable, while a low humidity in the winter let us skin too dry. ROOT automatically maintains an optimum level of humidity all year round. It doubles as air cleaner so total care of the air is possible.

Reinterpretation of Tradition
VLND reinterpreted the Korean tradition and applied to the modern age. The traditional Korean brazier inspired the design. Traditionally, it was used to heat and control the air of the surrounding, and created a comfortable place for people’s daily life.
Universal Design for Daily Use
ROOT functions as both a humidifier and a dehumidifier. It automatically detects the humidity, and humidifies when the humidity is low and dehumidifies when the humidity is high. To keep ideal humidity, the water tank is used several times a day. The most annoying inconvenience when using humidifier and dehumidifier is that users have to frequently refill or empty the water tank. Unlike most of existing products, its water tank can be taken out from the top, and the wide opening of the water tank allows users to refill or empty water very easily. Ease of use is the most important concept for us.
Visualization of Information
VLND designed it easy to recognize the status. The lights coming out of the fine holes on the top, which give the feel of a hot brazier, indicate the current operating status. ROOT adjusts brightness according to the current air quality and blinks when to check the water tank.
Design for Better Performance
Unlike most of similar products to be placed near the wall, VLND designed it to be placed in the center of a space. That is because being put it at the center of a room maximizes its performance. ROOT inhales air at the bottom and exhales purified air on the top.
Unique Form, Infusing a New Sensibility
Since it is used all year round including humid summers and dry winters, we wanted it to be like furniture. VLND used Curlfit technology to create the wood texture that represents a natural image.
The Legs
Three legs support the main body. The legs form smooth curves where the three legs converge.
If you look closely, you will find that it looks like a living creature. This gives a unique impression.
